Sunday Summary: Kayla Itsines Week 3

March 16, 2014

Hello everyone!

This was an INSANE week for me! I had a research proposal and a presentation all due this past week, so I was working like a maniac to make sure I got everything finished and to some sort of a high standard. I don’t know how I managed to get everything done, but when it hit 10PM on Thursday night (yes, my classes end at 10PM), I breathed a sigh of relief because my weekend had finally started …

In addition to all this work, I had a really great consultation with Body Type Nutrition coach and fitness model, Stephen Box. He has been my secret nutrition weapon these past few months and has been helping me with losing the last bit of fat and has taught me a lot about nutrition along the way. Since I am NOT a certified nutritionist, I can always use some help and I do not think any of you should shy away from getting help from qualified sources. Anyway, I was feeling a little demotivated and he really helped set me back on track. So thank you so much for that, Stephen! Staying inspired and motivated is a key part of staying a healthy and fit individual and certainly not something that should be overlooked.

This weekend saw me making some very sound nutritional choices as my boyfriend and I went to visit his grandparents and aunt who are sugar-free and gluten-free, because his aunt has candida (which I actually want to do a whole post on at some point, because candida overgrowth is actually a huge problem). Ergo, this weekend was full of delicious meals and desserts which were guilt free! For those of you who follow me on Instagram you will have seen the photo’s I posted of all the yummy food and the beautiful scenery I enjoyed.

Wow!! Thank you all so much, I could never have expected such an amazing response, and I all it all to YOU, my wonderful followers!! I have received really supportive and positive comments all around, and I am so happy you are all enjoying the blog posts. That is my goal, to create a blog where people are genuinely excited for the next post to come up and as a way to learn new things about health and fitness. And please, let me know what you would like to see next! I have many idea’s for future posts but I want to know that I am blogging about things you guys want to know about.

I just wanted to end this fantastic week with a health and fitness mention, sort of like a ‘This week I am loving …’ post.

The Green Post

I recently discovered www.thegreenpost.com.au and really love how their approach to health and lifestyle is focused on educating people on a sustainable and healthy lifestyle. It is such a breath of fresh air to find someone else who is focused on the long-term as opposed to quick fixes and short-term changes that will get you nowhere. Although The Green Post is still fairly new, they already have many interesting articles and delicious looking recipes posted! I tried their Butter nut and Lavender Apple pancake recipe and it was AMAZING!! The fact that it still tasted so sweet with only apple sauce as the sweetener was fabulous, and the lavender was a refreshing touch to them. A very original recipe that I recommend you all try!

Yummmmmy! I actually made 3 pancakes but the 3rd one was not photo worthy .. pancake flip fail shall we say ;P

So there you have it for this weeks recap! I am so excited to see how Honestly Fitness grows over the coming few months and eager to share most posts and video’s with you all. I have had so many idea’s locked up in my mind and it is incredibly to be able to finally share them all with you. I also want to mention that I recently created a Pinterest page, so please check it out when you have the chance.

Honestly yours,
Alice

Welcome to Honestly Fitness!

Before I launch into an introduction, let me take a moment to thank you all so much for visiting Honestly Fitness!

This blog was created with a vision to share the knowledge that I have gained over the years regarding health, fitness and everything in between. The majority of what I post will focus on health and fitness, but I play around a lot with beauty products (who doesn’t want soft and smooth skin?) so there will be the occasional beauty and lifestyle post.

Most of us, myself included, are not blessed with a super fast metabolism that allows them to eat whatever they want and stay in great shape. I started getting serious about fitness when I was about 16 and have been on that journey ever since. The keyword here is journey. The majority of people have the notion that once you achieve whatever you started out to achieve (such as losing 10 pounds), you can go back to your old habits and let loose so to speak. Unfortunately this is not the case – once you have achieved a particular goal, it is up to you to maintain that goal and to develop healthy and sustainable habits that will keep you in shape forever, and not just for 6 months. I will be on this journey for the rest of my life and I am so excited to share my thoughts and experience with you all!

My hope is that this blog will allow you to develop and maintain these habits. Fad diets, starvation and deprivation of any kind DO NOT work. For example, diets such as low-carbohydrate diets may work well in the short term, but your body thrives off of carbohydrates, and there is no way you can have a healthy and functioning body on such a diet. Be good to yourself and nourish your body with the correct nutrition and your body will thank you. Exercise for your goals, do not just blindly follow a ‘Drop 10 pounds fast!’ diet from a magazine.

I truly hope that you find this blog helpful, and please feel free to leave comments suggesting how I could improve the blog. Video editing advice would be much appreciated as I am a complete beginner!

Honestly yours,
Alice

P.S. I have previously written a few health and fitness article on The Yorker; check them out 🙂 They are about Bokwa, TRX suspension training, and facts about fat.
