The Yoga Collective & Giveaway

June 7, 2015

Last year, I was so good about doing yoga regularly. I practiced yoga about 3 times a week for about 6 months … and then I stopped. I mean, I did yoga here and there, but I was just so busy with my final year of graduate school that yoga sadly took a back seat. I have resolved to try and incorporate yoga into my weekly routine again and to practice at least once a week. Even if just for 10 minutes.

The Yoga Collective review

As such, I was thrilled when I learned about The Yoga Collective and their fantastic array of online yoga videos! Although I love going to yoga studios, sometimes time (and money) issues can make this difficult. Being able to do yoga at home makes it much more realistic for me to practice yoga on a regular basis.

What is it like to take a Yoga Collective class?

The Yoga Collective review

The cool thing about The Yoga Collective is that there actually is a physical studio in Venice Beach, CA, where they shoot their yoga videos.  I like that each video is shot in the studio because you really feel as if you are getting the full yoga studio experience from an online yoga class; but from home! When you play a yoga video, it starts with the instructor introducing themselves and explaining each of the poses in an easy to understand fashion. I have to say that so far, Shayna Hiller, is my favorite instructor because I think her voice is incredibly soothing and that she explains the poses and eases you into transitions extremely well. Her ‘Birds of a Feather Twist Together‘ class was fantastic and I highly recommend it.

But what if I’ve never done yoga before?

That is totally fine! The Yoga Collective has options for you to choose the level, duration, teacher, style and focus of the yoga class. There are lots of options for beginners and more advanced users alike. There is even a whole page dedicated to helping you perfect the moves called free yoga poses. This page has tons of videos of different yoga poses to help walk you through them and to make sure your form is correct (so important in yoga).

If you are a beginner, it is definitely helpful to get private instruction and/or one on one help from a yoga instruction but to be honest, 95% of all the yoga I have done has been at home. It is just so much more convenient.

I would love to win a membership because, like you, I also used to practice yoga regularly but now it has slipped . I’ve started a new full time job and I’m hoping that having a routine will help bring it back for me!!

  • Kate June 7, 2015 at 2:28 pm

I would love to win because I only started yoga this year, through following YouTube videos. I hate it when I don’t find time for yoga and I wish I had one place to find routines to follow. Instead of searching through lots of things on YouTube. Yoga instantly improves my mood and outlook on my day/life. Even when I don’t think I’m tense, after a session I feel so light!

  • Meg June 7, 2015 at 4:17 pm

I would love to win as I love practicing yoga! This would allow me to do it in the comfort of my own home and at a time that suits me which work perfectly with my full time study!

  • Anna June 8, 2015 at 7:47 am

I want to win because I just started my first big girl job after graduating with my masters in computer science and need some help destressing and staying fit, especially with a desk job! I’ve not really tried yoga before, but I used to do pilates during school and loved it. Unfortunately I’ve moved and don’t have a place available to go to πŸ™

I would love to start doing yoga as I really need to get more fit.

As a yoga teacher, I’m VERY conscious of the fact that no matter how much I’ve studied and practiced, there is always something else I can learn or experience to better serve my students. I love taking classes with other teachers so I can see how they have chosen to sequence a class, or explain a pose. It is very easy to get into a rut where I always use the same instruction, or explain something the exact same way from class to class; but sometimes all it takes for a student to have a profound, new experience in a familiar pose is one instruction that is different, or a single word that resonates with them. Taking classes with other instructors–especially those with a different teacher training and education background–helps me to become a better teacher.

  • EVA June 10, 2015 at 7:05 am

I’m definitely NOT trying to lose weight, but want to exercise as it boosts my energy to disturbing levels. It’s a good disturbing though, I promise! I was able to do a yoga class only once. It was intermediate and I was totally new, but she said I did awesome and pointed it out in front of everybody! I don’t know if it’s possible to be a “natural” at yoga, but I’m gonna run with it! Or….sun salutation with it?

  • Lora June 10, 2015 at 7:19 am

I would like to win as I live in a small town that doesn’t offer much in terms of yoga [there’s a class at 9am – but I work then]. I used to do yoga when I lived in a bigger city and LOVED it – it was so great for my body! Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Tabby72 June 10, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Hi, I have tried yoga in the past and like it, but I’m so busy and find it hard to add it into my week. I’d love to win this, because I’d have no excuse not to do yoga!

  • Leah June 10, 2015 at 6:20 pm

I broke my leg several months ago and I’m still having some trouble with balance and I thought yoga might help me with that.

  • Nicole June 10, 2015 at 7:39 pm

I would love to try this. I have a yoga studio I love but sometimes I can’t make it to classes because of my crazy work schedule. This way I could at least get a class in still.

  • Tessa June 10, 2015 at 10:25 pm

I love yoga but I work in the evenings so I’m not able to attend too many classes. This would be great to do yoga at home!!

  • Vera K June 11, 2015 at 3:44 am

Yes I have tried yoga. This would be a great help for me. I could do some yoga when my time is limited or I just can’t make it to the studio.

  • steph June 11, 2015 at 5:17 am

Moving to a new place…may take a while to find a good studio!

  • Erin B. June 11, 2015 at 1:59 pm

I do yoga with my mom but would love to learn more.

  • Dawn S. June 13, 2015 at 10:13 pm

I’ve only tried yoga twice, but I think I would be much more comfortable attempting it more regularly at home rather than in a class.

  • Sammie T June 24, 2015 at 9:03 am

First of all, you should put a disclaimer that you got a free year subscription for your “honest” review.

Secondly, all your comments are fake in order to generate interest. There’s nothing “honest” about you.

    • Honestly Fitness June 24, 2015 at 9:19 am

      Hi Sammie,

Thank you for your comment. You are very correct in that I should’ve put a disclaimer. I write disclaimers 99.9% of the time and I cannot believe I forgot to do so for this post. I am sorry that you do not think I am honest; I try to post what I think will be genuinely helpful and useful for my readers and I am sorry you think that my comments are simply to generate interest.

      Alice

  • Bain June 24, 2015 at 9:37 am

I have to say that the last comment is bizarre–I’m kind of offended that the writer has decided I don’t exist (because it states “all your comments are fake”). WTH??

    • Honestly Fitness June 24, 2015 at 9:44 am

Ah, I didn’t interpret it that way to be honest! I thought they were referring to my comments on my blog posts.
You definitely do exist and write fantastic blog posts, Elizabeth!! <3
Thanks again for participating as well πŸ™‚
