Welcome to Honestly Fitness!
My name (a.k.a the creator of this website) is Alice Williams and I am a Salt Lake City based health and fitness blogger. I was born in Hong Kong and lived there for 10 years, and then moved to the beautiful paradise island of Phuket, Thailand. I then moved to York, England to do my undergraduate in History and Politics and lived in Santa Cruz, CA during my second year as part of a study abroad program that the University of York offered. I then moved to San Francisco, CA where I completed an MA in Communication Studies and moved to Salt Lake City upon completion. This website was created to show you that despite being incredibly busy, either as a student, a full-time employee (or both!), that you can still lead a fit and healthy lifestyle.
Why I made Honestly Fitness
So, how does all that help you all understand why I made this blog? Good question! I tend to put this down to my time in Thailand – it made me aware of how superficial traits could, sadly, play such a huge role in people’s lives because I was surrounded by people who valued good looks and good bodies. I was always fairly chubby as a child and early teen, and so I have always felt a keen interest in fitness and health because of this. Although my initial reasons for engaging in fitness may not have been entirely wholesome, it undoubtedly kickstarted my journey through the fitness world and saw my transformation from someone who just wanted to be skinny into wanting so much more for myself – a healthy and strong body, glowing skin, hair and nails, and just a better quality of life in general. My year in Santa Cruz, CA exposed me to a whole new perspective into the world of health and fitness. For those who live in California, you know all about the obsession with health and fitness here. I had never seen places before that sold wheatgrass shots, solely organic products, and gluten free food. I was offered a glimpse into uncharted territory so I went there and never turned back. I am interested in exploring and making ALL types of food, whether it contains meat, is vegan, gluten-free or sugar-free, I try not to be exclusionary 🙂
The ‘Honestly Fitness’ Mission
I created this blog with the intention of giving an honest opinion, backed up by factual evidence, about anything and everything concerning fitness, health, and everything in between. I got fed up of hearing empty and meaningless claims, and information that didn’t take into account how different people are. It made me sad to think how incredibly profit driven the health and fitness industry has become – literally selling you anything and everything, whether it helped you lose fat, or whatever else it claimed. What was worse was hearing people talk about and discussing things related to health and fitness that were so wrong, and sometimes just plain stupid.
This blog is here to straighten out the facts and to bring to your attention important and controversial topics in the world of health and fitness. Although I am not a certified personal trainer, nutritionist, or dietitian, I felt that there was a need for a normal person’s voice in the world of health and fitness. Not all of us are educated on the anatomy of the body, how carbohydrates break down into sugars in the body, and most of us do not have much time or money to spend on personal trainers or chefs. I wanted to provide a relatable figure and to help people realize that they are NOT alone in their quest to be fit and healthy, we are all in this together!
Love you all,
P.S. Get in touch with Sammy Nicholls if you ever need graphic design work. She made my logo and header and I was very impressed with her work and work ethic 🙂
