Sun, sea, sand ā summer is here, baby! And for many, summer brings some form of travel with it. And while travelling can be so fun, I know it can also be disruptive to our eating patterns and have us prioritizing options that are easy. Which aren’t always the healthiest.
I wanted to share some thoughts on snacks that are portable, easy to make or buy and, of course, offer health benefits ā here are five of my favorites:
Raw Rev Protein Bars
Protein bars period are a great snack and perfect for when you’re busy and on the go. I’ve been a long-time fan of Raw Rev, enjoying them since 2018. I was initially drawn to them given their higher fiber count in addition to having plenty of protein.
When they rebranded (fairly recently), I noticed their fiber count was lower so I reached out to the team who told me that this is due to a US FDA ruling on tapioca syrup (IMO), one of the ingredients in their bars. In late 2021, the US FDA ruled that IMO could no longer be considered as a source of fiber. However, other countries, including Canada and the entire European Union, still does consider it a source of fiber. Interesting, right? I still feel full and satisfied from Raw Rev bars, so despite their label showing a lower fiber count purely due to how the US views one of the ingredients in their bars, I still consider it a high fiber and high protein food.
All that being said, I highly recommend trying their creamy peanut butter flavor ā it is DELICIOUS! If you purchase their bars through my affiliate link, you’ll receive 20% off. Try them and let me know what you think ā given that I have been genuinely loving their product for over seven years, I’m obviously a fan š
Fruit
Fruit is a great choice ā it’s easy to find and buy, portable and a great source of energy. Consider pairing a fiber-rich fruit, such as apple, raspberries or strawberries with a handful of nuts for a snack that will keep you full and pack in a healthy dose of protein and fat. String cheese with fruit is another yummy pairing!
Greek Yogurt
The king of all snacks! I tend to opt for greek yogurts with 0% or 2% fat to keep calories on the lower end. It is unreal how protein packed and filling greek yogurt is! I suggest buying a plain yogurt (the flavored ones are full of added sugar) and I stir in powdered peanut butter and sprinkle in pumpkin pie spice. Just delicious and pairs so well with homemade fiber crackers (the ones I’ve made recently are bread-like!).
Almond Flour Bread

My almond flour recipe is so easy to make, incredibly simple and can be prepped ahead of time to bring on vacation with you. Find the recipe here and give it a go ā I guarantee you’ll be surprised at how delicious it is! In my opinion, it tastes somewhat like cornbread and is incredibly filling given the healthy fat from the almonds and protein from the eggs.
Egg White Bites
I’ve been having a blast making my own egg white bites recently. The nice thing about this option is that you get the best of both worlds ā you can make your own or buy them from any Starbucks. And we all know how widespread those are! When making egg white bites as a healthy snack, I like to saute the vegetables I include first (I always start with garlic, red onion and serrano peppers and then usually add in mushrooms and bell peppers) before adding them to the egg white mixture.
Which of these would you pick? These are my go tos for easy and healthy travel snacks that you can bring anywhere, or, can likely find no matter where you travel. Hope this gave you a few new ideas to try and make your summer travels a little smoother.
