Quest Nutrition

January 15, 2015

As a busy person on the go, having light and portable snacks where I can just grab them and go are really useful. I was fortunate enough to be sent a few products from Quest Nutrition to review 🙂

What is Quest Nutrition?

Quest Nutrition are a company with a mission to “revolutionize food and make healthy eating fun.” Their products include protein bars, protein chips, protein powders, ‘cravings’, and quest pastas. Their products are all high in protein and full of fiber, so they make a fantastic snack and can fit into your healthy and active lifestyle.

I first heard about them a few years ago because they were the first company to make a clean protein bar with great nutritional stats. I remember trying my first ever protein bar when I moved to the US. It was a coconut cashew protein bar and I remember being so surprised at how good it tasted, and at how full it kept me for hours after eating it. I knew I had come across a special product.

Right now, you can buy them in any GNC stores and you can order them online if you live outside of the US.

What is in Quest Nutrition?

The main ingredients that go into all Quest Nutrition products are whey or milk protein isolate, IMO fiber, sea salt and sweeteners such as stevia, erythritol, sucralose, and/or lo han guo (a fruit). For those of you concerned about sweeteners, choose the stevia and lo han guo options as they are derived from a plant and a fruit. Truly though, sweeteners are not as scary as everyone thinks. There has been no evidence that sweeteners such as sucralose have any harmful health effects. However, I understand that there is something a little strange about having a product which tastes just like sugar yet has no calories whatsoever. I try to stick to no added sweeteners as much as possible but I am not against them whatsoever. At the end of the day, if they help you make better choices then do what works best for you.

review of the best protein bars from Quest Nutrition

 My Favorite Picks

I still have a few protein bars to get through, but here are my favorite products out of the ones I have been sent so far …

  • BBQ quest protein chips
  • S’mores protein bar
  • Cookies & Cream protein bar (THIS IS AMAZING!!!)
  • Strawberry Cheesecake
  • Cinnamon Roll

I was pleasantly surprised by the BBQ quest protein chips! The flavor was so delicious and the chips have the exact same texture as normal chips; they have a great crunch! However, the only downside is that they have a slightly milky taste due to the protein powder. It overpowered the salt & vinegar chips especially. However, the other good aspects of the chips did make up for this.

I still have a few more protein bars to try so I will let you know my thoughts. I liked all of the other bars I tried except for the chocolate brownie bar. The ones above are my favorite flavors though, and especially the cookies & cream one. I don’t know how they did it, but it literally tastes like an orea. SO GOOD 🙂

I hope this review is useful for you all especially if you were curious about whether to buy them. Quest Nutrition get my Honestly Fitness seal of approval for being a delicious and healthy grab n’ go snack.

Honestly yours,
Alice

The Kayla Movement

January 2, 2015

Happy New Year lovelies! I hope you all had your fill of holiday foods and indulgences and are ready to transition back into a healthier style of eating and living with The Kayla Movement. I know I am!

Fit and Healthy for 2015

For those of you who read Honestly Fitness regularly, you know that I am an avid fan of Kayla Itsines workouts (for those of you who have no idea who she is, click here). She announced on her Instagram that on Monday 5th January, 2015,  she and anyone else who wants to join will be restarting her Bikini Body Training Guide (BBTG or BBG) and creating the biggest worldwide team ever. So exciting, right?!

The Kayla Movement

I think this is a fantastic way to start the new year and to pave the path for a healthy lifestyle (or add a challenge if you already have a healthy lifestyle). Not only do you get 12 weeks worth of workouts (and an additional 12 weeks if you choose to continue on with her bikini body training guide 2.0, and a healthy eating guide, you will also get access to an amazing support group! The girls on Instagram who do Kayla Itsines’ workouts and follow her eating guide are some of the nicest girls you will ever meet. I posted a progress photo on Instagram and was so sure I would get mean comments but quite the contrary. Everyone has been so lovely and encouraging, which only makes me want to participate more and encourage other girls who have been brave enough to post their progress photos. You can find me on Instagram by clicking here.

How to join The Kayla Movement

If you want to join in The Kayla Movement, all you have to do is start her BBG 1.0 on January 5th. Whenever you upload a photo or discuss your progress on social media, simply hashtag it with #kaylaitsines #kaylasarmy #thekaylamovement and don’t forget to tag @kaylaitsines (and me too hehe, but not mandatory @honestlyfitness). Also, don’t forget to join the ‘KI BBG’ group on Facebook if you would like a support group on Facebook.

How to buy the guides

If you haven’t got Kayla Itsines’ workout guides and healthy eating guides yet, click on the photo below to purchase it (disclaimer: this is an affiliate link and I will get some compensation which helps me run Honestly Fitness!)

If you want the app, check out my review of Kayla’s ‘Sweat with Kayla’ app first by clicking here.

Who’s with me? Comment below with your goal for 2015 and your Instagram name so we can follow each other on this 24 week journey together. If any of you live in San Francisco or Salt Lake City, then let me know. Would love for us to be able to workout together 🙂

For an example of a healthy meal plan based off of Kayla’s HELP guide which I will be following, click here. For more healthy food options, click here for healthy breakfast’s, lunches, dinners, smoothies and baked goods! And finally, here’s a review of Leah Itsine’s ‘Eat with Leah’ cookbook.

Rocksbox

December 24, 2014

Being a graduate student, the majority of my money goes towards food, rent and my car, leaving little to none to be spent on fun things such as clothes, shoes, and jewelry. So imagine my delight when I find out that San Francisco has its very own jewelry subscription service, Rocksbox!

How does Rocksbox work?

For a small monthly fee, Rocksbox will send you a box with three pieces of designer jewelry, which have been handpicked for you after you take a quick style survey. You can keep the pieces for as long as you like or return them and get a new box with brand new goodies. If you fall in love with a piece and absolutely cannot part with it, Rocksbox offers members 20% off if they decide to purchase anything. Oh, and shipping to your house and then back is free. So cool, right?

Rocksbox-review

You all know that I would not share something with you if I didn’t think it would be useful to you. This is such a great way for all you ladies out there to have jewelry but at an affordable price. And I don’t know about you, but have you seen the price of some of the jewelry out there?? Even the cheap ones are at least $10, and I would much rather pay a small monthly fee and be able to try out and test a bunch of different items of jewelry. Such a good way to keep things fresh and have brand new and gorgeous jewelry for special occasions.

Rocksbox review

Clearly, I wear jewelry to very important events haha. This was actually at my housemate’s work party at Madame Tussaud’s. If I had to pick a role model, Audrey Hepburn would win in a heartbeat. I like to think that we do not need someone to model ourselves off of, but I think it is helpful to have a figure to look up to with qualities you admire (as opposed to trying to be their clone).

Honestly Fitness Approved

Rocksbox is 100% Honestly Fitness approved. Wellness is defined as “the state or condition of being in good physical and mental health”, and being able to have nice things can certainly add to that. Who doesn’t like having new things after all, and especially designer pieces that are a reasonable price. I am so supportive of companies that provide a service to young women that help them feel confident and beautiful.

I also looked up some info. on the CEO of Rocksbox, Meaghan Rose, and I am impressed! She holds both an MS in Economics and an MBA; such a fantastic example of a forward thinking and successful lady.

Click here to try Rocksbox and get some gorgeous jewelry for the New Year (not an affiliate link, just my personal referral link).

Tell me what you think! Would you ever try out Rocksbox?

Honestly yours,
Alice
