Fast walking–don’t knock it until you try it is all I have to say. Fast walking is a very underrated form of exercise despite the fact that one study found that walking offers the same benefits as running calorie-for-calorie burned, by helping to lower your risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and more. I actually helped contribute on a fun article on 5 Things to Never Say to a Walker for Prevention.com, which you can check out here.
In this blog post, I’m going to give you a couple of suggestions on how to easily incorporate fast walking into your day to help you burn more calories on a daily basis while getting a tan 😉
Fast Walking
Before Breakfast
I personally prefer working out first thing in the morning before life gets too crazy. I try and hit the gym 3-4 times a week to lift some weights, and on the other days, I will do cardio or yoga. Now that the weather is so beautiful outside, I encourage you to go fast walking first thing in the morning. It’s a fantastic way to wake up and embrace nature, while doing something good for yourself.
I like to bring along a protein shake during my morning workouts and typically just mix some Bob’s Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder with some water–simple yet effective! Bob’s Red Mill actually has a coupon on their website which gives you $1 off their protein powders. You can click here to redeem it and try their protein powders out if you want!
During your lunch-break
This is one of my favorite ways to break up the day! After being in an office all day, it’s such a pleasure to go on a 10, 20 or 30 minute walk during lunch. I usually grab a friend and chat so I get in some social time as well as exercise! I really need to remember to bring sunscreen along with me because I am sure that my skin is not thanking me for leaving it unprotected haha.
After Dinner
My godmother got me into this habit–whenever I visited her, we would go on a leisurely walk after dinner to help us “digest dinner” as she put it. It’s a habit I’ve continued with my husband and it really helps us both to unwind and relax. Plus, you never know what cute dog you may bump into 🙂
Weekend: Go to the park or on a Hike
When the weekend rolls around, it can be fun to spend a couple hours at the park! I encourage you to head down with a picnic basket packed–this is actually on my bucket list! To either bring a picnic basket to the park or bring one on a hike. Now that the weather is so beautiful, I feel as if I have to spend as much time as possible outside, to make up for the fact that I was cooped inside for so long. Bringing your own food is a great way to save money and to ensure you are eating healthy and wholesome foods–I’d probably bring along some protein powder mix, and make some wraps, and of course bring some fruit for dessert 🙂

Walk is great, but I generally try to run outdoors if I’m going outdoors to workout. Otherwise, it’s too hot and I just jog indoors! I do agree that walking is a fantastic exercise especially in the evening when the wind starts to blog and the weather’s much cooler 🙂
