Meal Planning for The Kayla Movement

January 4, 2015

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be a part of The Kayla Movement and officially start (re-start in my case) Kayla Itsines bikini body training guide on Monday, 5th January. In preparation for the coming week, I thought it would be useful for you and for myself to plan down what I will be eating this week. Useful for me because it will help me plan what to buy at the supermarket and give me structure to my week, and useful for you because I hope it will inspire you to try out some new meals and/or give you some guidance if you are new to making healthy meals. My Healthy on the Cheap article is also a great resource to planning healthy meals on a budget.

These meals have all been inspired by Kayla Itsines HELP nutrition guide (disclaimer: affiliate link which helps me pay for Honestly Fitness) and the Clean and Lean philosophy books by James Duigan.

I have decided not to plan anything just yet for the weekend to allow for flexibility in case I want to meet up with a friend for some food. I tend to meet friends for dinner so will usually have make breakfast and lunch similar to the ones I have planned above.

Also, as you can see, I repeat a lot of meals and snacks to make sure I do not waste any of the foods that I have bought. I also buy frozen shrimp and tilapia as it is much more economical and last ages. I buy fresh chicken but I freeze any chicken breasts that will not get used within the next 3 days and thaw them as needed. I also buy frozen green beans and corn (I buy a lot of frozen things don’t I?!). I tend to do groceries twice a week or more as needed so I do not waste any food or buy more than I need.

What are you planning to eat/make for this week?

I love knowing what you are all doing as I get ideas from you as well! Let me know in the comments below if posts like these are helpful to you or not. And don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook for more healthy foods ideas and healthy living tips (peppered with the occasional random comment) 🙂

The Kayla Movement

January 2, 2015

Happy New Year lovelies! I hope you all had your fill of holiday foods and indulgences and are ready to transition back into a healthier style of eating and living with The Kayla Movement. I know I am!

Fit and Healthy for 2015

For those of you who read Honestly Fitness regularly, you know that I am an avid fan of Kayla Itsines workouts (for those of you who have no idea who she is, click here). She announced on her Instagram that on Monday 5th January, 2015,  she and anyone else who wants to join will be restarting her Bikini Body Training Guide (BBTG or BBG) and creating the biggest worldwide team ever. So exciting, right?!

The Kayla Movement

I think this is a fantastic way to start the new year and to pave the path for a healthy lifestyle (or add a challenge if you already have a healthy lifestyle). Not only do you get 12 weeks worth of workouts (and an additional 12 weeks if you choose to continue on with her bikini body training guide 2.0, and a healthy eating guide, you will also get access to an amazing support group! The girls on Instagram who do Kayla Itsines’ workouts and follow her eating guide are some of the nicest girls you will ever meet. I posted a progress photo on Instagram and was so sure I would get mean comments but quite the contrary. Everyone has been so lovely and encouraging, which only makes me want to participate more and encourage other girls who have been brave enough to post their progress photos. You can find me on Instagram by clicking here.

How to join The Kayla Movement

If you want to join in The Kayla Movement, all you have to do is start her BBG 1.0 on January 5th. Whenever you upload a photo or discuss your progress on social media, simply hashtag it with #kaylaitsines #kaylasarmy #thekaylamovement and don’t forget to tag @kaylaitsines (and me too hehe, but not mandatory @honestlyfitness). Also, don’t forget to join the ‘KI BBG’ group on Facebook if you would like a support group on Facebook.

How to buy the guides

If you haven’t got Kayla Itsines’ workout guides and healthy eating guides yet, click on the photo below to purchase it (disclaimer: this is an affiliate link and I will get some compensation which helps me run Honestly Fitness!)

Kayla Itsines Round 2 – Week 12!

December 21, 2014

It’s only the beginning …

I have finished the 12 week bikini body guide from Kayla Itsines! To any new readers who have only just discovered Honestly Fitness, please click here to read about what the bikini body guide is, and my review of it when I did it my first time round. Yes, this was my second time round, and I feel as if I made much more progress this time round.

Kayla Itsines Round 2 – Week 12

To give you a quick summary, week 12 was hard. I feel as if I was a little stronger than when I did the workout in week 10 (I used 12 pound weights instead of 10 pounds, woo hoo!). I definitely felt stronger during my arms and ab workouts but I feel as my legs ares is still my weak spot, as I only managed to do one round of each circuit in this week’s leg workout. Anyway, I will be doing my second bikini body guide review sometime in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for that.

SoulCycle

The rest of my week was great and it seemed to absolutely fly by. I was invited to attend a SoulCycle class on Saturday morning by my friend Amira, and it was so much fun. SoulCycle is a workout chain that specializes in hardcore spinning (i.e. cycling) workouts. I had heard a lot about them because they have a pretty stellar following of various celebrities and a reputation for providing an intense workout. Needless to say I was pretty intimidated!

The studio itself was beautiful and very clean. You sign up at the front desk and they hand you a pair of special spinning shoes and show you where the lockers are so you can drop off your stuff. I recommend that you tell a member of staff if you are new to SoulCycle so they can help you adjust the bicycle and help you actually put your spinning shoes onto the straps (they lock into the bicycle strap)! The workout was fantastic; they dimmed the lights right down and made you do a combination of high resistance climbs and low resistance sprints coupled with some arm work with light dumbbells towards the end. I highly recommend SoulCycle if you are feeling demotivated as the music and vibe of SoulCycle is awesome.

In Food News

In food news, I made my delicious baked zucchini fritters for breakfast on Friday (or was it Thursday??) with smashed avocado on sourdough toast. So delicious and EASY!

honestly fitness easy and healthy baled zucchini fritter recipe

I also had an indulgent Saturday night as my good friend was holding her annual ‘White Elephant’ Christmas party and of course she had made a ton of delicious savory and sweet food. I am definitely paying the price for it today, as my tummy definitely feels unsettled. Fun night regardless though. My white elephant gift was actually really good as it was a small gift set from Bath and Body Works. Someone got lottery tickets which I thought was hilarious!!!

review of bbg 1.0 week 12

I bought two of James Duigan’s books (the man behind the ‘Clean and Lean‘ diet) so I am testing out a few recipes over the next few days and will be applying that in the New Year. I am excited to share with you all what I think about his philosophy!

Clean & Lean Cookboo - James Duigan

Right now I am currently making some toffee as a homemade gift for a friend. Yeah, spoiled the surprise but she already knew so it’s okay!

What have you been up to this weekend? What are your Christmas plans?

Be sure to keep an eye out for my review of Kayla Itsines Round 2 and for a few special posts I have planned for next week 😉
