What is Fitmob? + Athleta Giveaway

October 20, 2014

This weekend, I had the good fortune of attending a Fitmob class and seeing for myself firsthand what Fitmob was all about. I first heard about Fitmob from my boss of all people, and I had been interested to learn more ever since. So …

What is Fitmob?

What is Fitmob?

What is Fitmob? Good question – Fitmob wanted a way to help motivate people and make fitness fun again! They have a really cool community based approach to fitness that let people workout both indoors and outdoors within their own neighborhood. They essentially are creating fitness communities within San Francisco and holding great workout classes for people to attend! It’s a very innovative approach and so on point, as most people enjoy working out with others and not alone. Fun fact, Tony Horton is one of Fitmob’s co-creators. Yep, the P90X guy, how cool is that?!

My experience with Fitmob

If you go on the Fitmob website, you are prompted to enter your zip code and are then brought to a page where you can browse through a bunch of different workout classes. I decided to try a class called ‘UrbanKick’ this saturday because I absolutely love kickboxing.

 Fitmob Headquarters; easy to spot!

I went with a friend (double the fun!) and unfortunately, we could not do UrbanKick because there was no power in the Fitmob HQ, and the door was locked! The instructor, Justin, was quick thinking and asked if we would all be alright with going to a park nearby and doing a bootcamp style workout. I did not mind although I asked if we could do a more cardio focused bootcamp since I had done a Kayla Itsines circuit the other day, and he was very accommodating. The workout itself was great! We started out with a warmup consisting of high knees, jogging on the spot and sprints (shudder) and moved on to some leg work (think squats, squats, and more squats!) and then finished up with some core work. It was definitely a good workout although the park was pretty muddy and I got my new Asics all muddy!!! I wish I had worn my old Nikes haha, but oh well. Justin was such a fun instructor and kept us all laughing despite wanting to yell obscenities at him when he made us do jumping lunges (they are HARD!).

Although I do prefer doing my own workouts, I think Fitmob is definitely something to try if you want to be motivated and to have fun whilst working out. There was a great community feel and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

Kayla Itsines Round 2 – Week 2

October 5, 2014
Kayla Itsines Round 2 - Week 2

Kayla Itsines Round 2 – Week 2

Week 2 of Kayla Itsines BBG (bikini body guide) is an interesting week. I personally think that it is much harder than week 1 because of all the jumping we have to do in the legs workout circuit (one word: jumping lunges) and the commandos and mountain climber/push up combos destroy me during the arms workout. I found these really, really hard the first time around as well. They are just demon exercises honestly haha, and if you do like them well then kudos to you! Honestly I am surprised I managed to do the full body workout today, because my abs were still incredibly sore from Friday’s arm workout.

Food wise I didn’t do as well as I would’ve liked, but it was not too bad. I stuck to the HELP guide during the week, but had a bit too much over the weekend. I had a cider on Friday night and on Saturday night, I went out for dinner with some friends. We went to a really nice place in San Francisco called Zerozero SF. Have any of you ever been there before? We shared a delicious roasted cauliflower dish which I recommend whole-heartedly. It tasted so buttery due to the rosemary oil that it was lavishly cooked in. I also got their salad special of the day which was this incredible octopus salad with butter beans with chorizo oil. I have never before had something with chorizo oil, but I would buy it by the gallonful if I could … it was DELICIOUS! Probably not overly healthy though lol. And tonight since I did the total body workout quite late, I was STARVING and got a big chicken pad see ew. I am staying positive however and making sure I am more mindful next week. I.E. do not let myself get too hungry!

Kayla Itsines Round 2 - Week 2

 My octopus salad, yum!

I weighed myself on Friday and I was still 4 pounds less so that makes me really happy. I am hoping that I can maintain this weight-loss and any extra is truly a bonus. My waist looks as if it is tightening up, but again, it is still too early to tell. I am excited to see what results I have when the first and second month pass.

TRX Training Center Review

September 18, 2014

Thanks to my wonderful one month ClassPass membership (read more about ClassPass here), I had the opportunity to try out two TRX classes at the TRX Training Center. I decided to write a TRX training center review for any of you who may interested in taking a class there. I use TRX exercises occasionally in my workouts but I had always wanted the experience of doing a class. Even though I can work up quite a sweat on my own, there is something about having someone push you to your limits and telling you to do “JUST ONE MORE!”

The first class I tried was the ‘TRX Circuit Training’ class. I completed Kayla Itsines bikini body guide (BBG) a few months ago (read my review here) and since her workouts are circuit based, I thought this would be a really fun class to try.

Ah, if only I were as fit as I was when I was doing Kayla’s program … I really got my butt kicked at the TRX circuit training class!

The class is a mixture of strength moves done on the TRX and cardio based moves such as jump rope and burpees. The class was essentially structured so you would do a few sets of exercises on the TRX (which were timed) and you would then take a short break and do some cardio based moves without the TRX (also timed). Every part of your body gets worked out in this class; upper body, core and legs. My core is definitely my weak point and the TRX really challenges you because you use the whole weight of your body to support you. The instructor for the class was Miguel, and he was fantastic! I feel as if most instructors do not check on their students form much, but he was great at making sure my form was on point. I would love to take another TRX circuit training class with him (although a little scared haha).

Me dying in the TRX circuit training class

The second class I tried was the TRX Body Blast class. Although this class was just as hard (I had to pause and catch my breath multiple times), it was more of a strength based class. You do get cardio in as you are moving at a fast pace but you are not doing dedicated cardio based moves as you would in the TRX circuit training class. Again, this class worked every inch of my body and left me feeling extremely sore. This class was much fuller than the TRX circuit training class and I have to say, I felt a little intimidated at first! I had nothing to worry about though as everyone was really nice and welcoming.

“Bottom line: TRX is an incredibly

effective and challenging workout”

I feel so lucky to live in a city with a TRX training center! I hope to try out some more classes in the future. I was particularly interested in trying out their TRX rip training to see what that was all about. It will have to wait however because next week, I plan on restarting Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide and then continuing onto the bikini body guide 2.0 … I am SO nervous. I did the legs workout from her free week of workouts downloads and today my legs are so incredibly sore and stiff. I forgot how intense the workouts were!

So wish me luck 🙂 Also, how many of you have ever tried a TRX class before? Let me know if you have or if you use it at your local gym. Would love to see some of the routines you guys do with TRX.

Honestly yours,
Alice
