Obé Fitness Review (From A Former Home Workout Hater)

August 30, 2020

As I mentioned, I used to be a home workout hater and I would never have imagined that I could grow to like doing home workouts. But that’s what a pandemic will do to you I suppose! I officially quit my gym membership a few weeks ago (*tear*) because I just didn’t know when it was realistic to safely go back.

Over the past couple of months, I’ve tried a range of home workout programs (read about my favorites here). I’ve heard about Obé Fitness for a while but it wasn’t really until the pandemic hit that I started using it regularly. I am really excited to share my honest thoughts with you and potentially convince any former home workout haters to try them out!

What is Obé Fitness and How Does it Work?

Obé Fitness can best be described as a digital studio with an array of daily live workouts and thousands of on-demand classes. This is a unique set up as most home workout programs only offer pre-recorded workouts. The majority of the classes require little to no equipment and minimal space is needed.

The live workouts during the week normally start around 5am MT and end around noon/early afternoon. On the weekends, they start a little later on in the day. I normally choose to do the on-demand classes but it’s fun to do a live class every now and again as the instructors will shout out your name!

What are the Obé Fitness Workouts Like?

There are a whole array of class types and lengths to choose from. Workouts are normally 27-30 minutes long although there are some longer 45-minute and 60-minute options. They have express classes as well which are 5-10 minutes, which you can combine to make a full workout. I will favorite any classes I’ve liked, and ones that I want to try, to easily find them when it’s time to workout.

Class types range from:

  • Barre
  • Bounce
  • Cardio Boxing
  • Dance
  • Dance HIIT
  • Pilates
  • Power (fave!)
  • Sculpt (another fave!)
  • Strength
  • Stretch
  • Vinyasa Yoga
  • Yoga Sculpt

And they also have a section for kids, seniors, meditation and talks. There are also fun challenges (only available to those who sign up on a quarterly or annual basis) and programs that give you pre-determined workouts to do for a set number of days (15 days, 30 days, etc).

As you can see, there are a WHOLE range of different workouts you can see. You can filter them all by class length, fitness level (think beginner, intermediate, advanced), body focus, impact (high or low impact), instructor and even by what equipment you need.

How Much Does Obé Fitness Cost?

There are three main membership options to choose from. You receive a free 7-day trial in addition to the plan you pick.

  • Monthly membership: You are billed $27 month (comes out to $0.90 per day)
  • Quarterly membership: You are billed $65 every three months (comes out to $0.72 per day)
  • Annual membership: You are billed $199 every year (this is the cheapest option and comes out to $0.55 per day)
  • DISCOUNT: If you use my code by clicking here, you will receive 30% off of your first month! The link you clicked automatically applies the discount. Please note that you can cancel anytime, so if you don’t love it after your first month, then you don’t need to keep it.

Given the current state of the world, for me, gyms really aren’t an option right now. I think that Obé provides a really great deal given how many workouts you’re given access to.

Which Classes and Instructors Are My Favorite?

I am a low impact gal and I personally enjoy the Power and Sculpt classes the best. The power classes are what I would describe as classic strength circuit-training workouts. They require slightly heavier weights (they recommend between 8-15 pound weights) and are surprisingly tough! I really enjoyed this upper-body focused power class in particular.

The sculpt classes are best described as high rep, low impact classes. So think light weights (1-3 pounds) and barre type moves. I find the arm exercises surprisingly tough as you’re doing arm movements like shoulder presses, etc, for several minutes non-stop. They’re fun and definitely a challenge. I loved this core focused sculpt class.

My dream class was this Power + Sculpt 45-minute combo class!

I genuinely have enjoyed all the instructors for the classes that I have taken thus far. But if I had to choose, I have noticed that I prefer workouts from Madelaine O., Melody D., and Peter T. I’ve done their classes the most and haven’t had as much exposure to the other instructors.

Verdict? Honestly Fitness approved

I feel like it’s hard to go wrong with Obé! The live classes are a great motivator for anyone who enjoys in-person classes, and the on-demand classes have so much variety, so you won’t get bored.

The classes are effective and will help you achieve whatever your goals as long as you’re keeping an eye on nutrition as well.
