What, I hear you say, you’ve tried something other than BodyLura app?! Why yes, I do try new workouts every now and again (and love to incorporate other forms of exercise into my routine like Lagree, pickleball and more)!

I’m so excited to share more about Evlo Fitness and their method with you. Their philosophy of “gentle consistency” has really resonated with me and I’ve seen incredible strides in building muscle — which is something I have traditionally struggled with. I am a convert to their method and so excited to shared my review for Evlo Fitness with you today!

What is Evlo Fitness?

Evlo Fitness is branded as “smarter resistance training to effectively build muscle without excessive wear and tear on your body. Strength and cardio workouts are provided which can be accessed either via their app (available on iPhone or Android) or their website — I personally use the app. Founded by Dr. Shannon, all of their instructors, including Dr. Shannon who instructs many of the workouts seen in Evlo Fitness, are Doctors of Physical Therapy which is a definite differentiator from many workout programs.

How Does Evlo Fitness Work?

There are a variety of different tracks you can choose from to suit your schedule. I typically do the 5x per week (Build + style) or the 4x per week track, although I did the 3x per week (Build + Burn) class this week as I know I wouldn’t be able to fit more workouts in). Here’s an example of what they look like (but note this isn’t exhaustive):

  • 3x per week (Build + Burn)
  • 3x per week (Build + Burn Low Intensity Cardio
  • 4x per week
  • 4x per week (Low Intensity and High Intensity Cardio)
  • 5x per week (Barre)
  • 5x per week (Build +)
  • Minis
  • Travel
  • Prenatal
  • Postpartum
  • Reset Week
  • Foundations

If you choose a 3x per week track, you’ll receive 3 strength workouts, if you choose the 4x per week track, you’ll receive 4 strength workouts and if you choose the 5x per week track, then you’ll get 5 strength training workouts. Cardio is optional and not required.

I really enjoy the workouts and they feature some unique takes on more “traditional” moves to be more joint and neck friendly (i.e. their shoulder workouts — check out their Instagram to see what I mean). They also prioritize exercises that are performed in a manner to keep you stable/make your body feel “safe” (such as pressing your hand into the wall during lunges so you aren’t wobbling everywhere), which I find does allow me to perform cleaner reps/go up in weight as a result.

Can you tell me more about the workout formats in Evlo Fitness?

There’s a lot of variety and that’s honestly one of the coolest things about the program — and the fact that you receive new workouts every single week instructed by DPTs (Doctors of Physical Therapy)!

  • Build: This style of workout targets one muscle group at a time. Each exercise is 60-90 seconds long (Evlo goes by timing, not reps) to get you close to muscular failure in each set.
  • Burn: For these, you usually stay close to the mat and it’s more of a pilates style workout. But they still often include some heavy weights although they tend to use lighter weights for this style of workout.
  • Build & Burn: This is a mix of the two above workouts.
  • Barre: Only offered once per week, this class is higher rep with mainly light weights or bodyweight (but still intended to grow muscle!).
  • Low Impact Cardio: Designed to up your heartrate but you are doing moves that won’t elevate it too much/you won’t be jumping around.
  • Cardio Burst/High Intensity Cardio: This is Evlo’s version of HIIT where you give your all for short bursts of time.
  • Flow: Evlo’s version of yoga and is usually seen as an option for the weekend or during a reset week.
  • Prenatal/Postpartum: This track is super cool as it was taught by Dr. Shannon when she was pregnant! These are organized by gestation week.
  • Minis: “Mini” versions of the above full length classes, designed for when you are short on time.
  • Travel: A great option if you’re on vacation and don’t have access to much equipment. As such, they are mainly bodyweight classes or use minimal equipment.

What Else is Included in an Evlo Fitness Membership?

In addition to all the amazing workouts (you can access previous weeks’ workouts too!), they have a few different programs (Foundations, meant for beginners to get you used to the workouts, Meditation programs, etc.) and a nutrition component as well which includes recipes and useful guides on nutrition for body composition and more.

They also have a podcast called “Fit Body, Happy Joints,” which you can find on the app or anywhere you listen to your podcasts.

How Much Does Evlo Fitness Cost?

There’s no beating around the bush here — Evlo is pricier compared to many of the fitness programs available and comes out to be $55.99 per month or $599 annually. It was really hard for me to get over the high price point at first so definitely took advantage of the free trial they offered at the time! After having used it for quite some time, I believe in the value of Evlo Fitness and feel fine paying this amount.

Is Evlo Fitness Honestly Fitness Approved?

Short answer: yes!

Long answer: I am genuinely blown away by Evlo Fitness — I have never quite experienced a way of strength training where a) I have seen some real gains in building muscle and b) not feeling sore/run down constantly! I swear by Evlo’s gentle consistency method and their incredible warm up and cool downs. I remember skipping their warm up and cool down just once and feeling MUCH more sore afterwards.

Getting the body ready to move and then effectively calming down the nervous system has allowed my body to recover in a more effective manner and has kept me engaged and excited to workout. Now, I have always loved working out but I feel like this is one of the first times I’ve truly craved a workout. And I think it’s because my body knows that while each muscle group being worked that day will be fully cooked (Evlo members will get the use of this term), it’ll receive an effective cool down that will enable muscle growth. It’s hard to explain until you’ve given it a go yourself (which I hope you do!)

I am not affiliated with Evlo Fitness in any way whatsoever (but would love to be!) and wanted to share what’s been working for me lately. If you do the workouts, or give it a go because of me, I would love to know what you think! And if you do sign up for a free trial or become a member, I would be so grateful if you could let the Evlo Fitness team know that I sent you their way.

Honestly yours,
Alice
